Hi all.

Just trying to get to know around the car a little as this is my 1st car. Does the Corsa 1.0 petrol engine, 54 plate have a timing belt or chain. Have looked in the Haynes manual and it seems to indicate a chain, if so will these need changing at any time.

Cheers

Dean

its got a chain, corsa's tend to have a problem with chains n when they go dodgy they are bloody annoying, makes ya car sound like a diesel and cost quite a bit to get put right...iv just had mine done a 35k cus it was ticking like a b***h

beat you all :D

mine has only done 19k miles (54 reg) and it got worse and worse and eventually the chain stretches and then you loose power (then its about to snap, if it does you *** ur engine)..

anyway, i bought the kit for ÂŁ94 from vx dealer (guide rails, tensioners, new chain, oil gasket)

got it fitted for ÂŁ70 (some new person give me a price on fone so they had to do it for that)

after it was done, the owner said i was lucky coz if he had of give me price it wud of been around ÂŁ200

and all other garages were around ÂŁ300-ÂŁ600 supplied and fitted.

So cost me ÂŁ170 altogether.. runs nice now :)

to be fair, with a 54 plate which is post facelift he shouldnt need to replace his chain or tensioner as it will already have the double sized tensioner so shouldnt have the issues most corsa owners have... Also being a 1.0 litre it wont be the quitest car in the world...

i have a 1.0L 02 plate which is pre facelife, getting the chain and tensioner done next month and ill let ya know if it actually has any signifacant improvement, cars done 57000 miles...

timing belt

hi.. was just wondering what happens if the timing belt goes completely?
at least i think that's what's happened..
my car's been rattling (like a diesel) and it had been getting worse and worse, plus i was losing power big style.. until today when my engine just cut out while i was driving.. if i try to turn on the ignition, the engine won't turn over at all..
any advice would be REALLY appreciated..
is this the same sort of thing?
i have a big worry that 200 quid will not sort out my poorly car!
please help!!

ahh rite lol... thats a big help :) hoping to fit it on the weekend. all of my mates have not taken to the idea of helping me so looks like im doing it alone lmao!! Do you know if its a big job? ive been offerd ÂŁ100 to fit my kit i bought. ive worked on cars b4 taking engines out changing clutches ect so it shouldnt be too difficult, providing i follow the haynes manual?

i couldnt tell ya mate as ive never done it,
as far as i know they are pretty straight forward but fiddly thats all ive been told,
but if your mechanically minded and have a manuel to follow im pretty sure there isnt really a way for you to chuff it up?
